ACT UP Cleveland's protest against President Clinton's unfulfilled campaign promises was perfectly timed: They marched the length of the festival, arriving in front of the stage just as Melissa Ross began singing the national anthem. After making their stand, to applause, the 15 protesters yielded the stage to her.

The ninth annual Dancin' in the Streets, held on Sunday, August 1, was a huge success. The Health Issues Taskforce fundraiser, this year featuring a rodeo theme, netted between $40,000 and $45,000, based on preliminary figures. Last year the festival raised $30,000, and in 1991, $29,000.

According to HIT Executive Director Joseph Interrante, the funds will be used for general support of the 10-year-old AIDS service organization, which this year felt a 40 to 50 percent increase in educational and service expenses over last year. Interrante reports that HIT's administrative expenses remain at less than 20 percent of its budget.
